Sit the way you would in the exam hall, with both hands on the keyboard, and pick the same duration your test uses. The timer starts on your first key press, so take a moment to read the opening line before you begin.
Accuracy counts for more than raw speed. A fast run full of mistakes produces a low net speed, because only correctly typed characters are counted. If your accuracy is below about 95%, slow down slightly; your net speed will usually go up.
Most skill tests use a passage of plain prose with ordinary punctuation and capital letters, much like the passages here. Practise with the 10 minute option a few times a week, since holding a steady speed for the full duration is harder than a quick one minute burst.
Take the test with backspace switched off now and then. It trains you to keep going after a slip instead of stopping to fix every character, which is often where time is lost.
Speed is counted in words per minute, where one word is five characters including spaces. Gross WPM counts everything you typed. Net WPM counts only the characters you typed correctly, which is the number that matters in a typing test. Some exam notices state the requirement in key depressions per hour (KDPH) instead. As a rough guide, KDPH is Net WPM multiplied by 300, and the result screen shows it for you.
No. New text is generated for every test, so you never type the same passage twice and your score reflects your real speed rather than a passage you have memorised.
Many Indian government typing tests, such as the SSC CHSL skill test, ask for 35 words per minute in English or 30 in Hindi. Requirements change between notifications, so always check the official notice for your exam.
Yes, by default. Some exams and practice tests do not allow corrections, so you can switch backspace off before you start to practise under stricter conditions.
Yes. After a test, press Practise these words and you get a short test made only of the words you missed, in a new order each round. These practice runs are not added to your progress.
Pasting is blocked so the result reflects your real typing speed.
Only on your own device. After each full test your speed and accuracy are kept in your browser so you can see your progress and best score, and you can clear them at any time. The text you type is never sent to a server or stored, and nothing is uploaded.
